This week we will examine the Articles of Confederation - What were the weaknesses of the Articles?; the Constitutional Convention - purpose, conflicts (how to create a powerful central government and maintain a republic????), compromises (create a concept web); ratification of the Constitution; Bill of Rights; Supreme Court and landmark cases

Read article: Constitution and Governance (including emerging democracies); Federalist papers

Reminder, your summer reading exam is Thursday (The Grapes of Wrath) Please be sure you have read the entire book!

Continue with research on assigned topics

Areas of Focus:
Monday - Wednesday - Impact of geography on Greece's economy & political structure (city-states); early history and impact of contact with other cultures (Mycenaeans, Minoans, Dorians); early political structures (monarchy, aristocracy, oligarchy); rise of Athenian democracy; rise of militaristic Sparta; Persian Wars, Golden Age of Greece (Pericles), art, philosophy, architecture, drama, history

Areas of Focus:
Thursday & Friday - Alexander the Great; conquest of Persia; spread of Hellenistic culture; contributions

Reminder - Your summer reading essays will be done in class Thursday. You need to bring your book with you since you will be using quotes from the book to support your essay. You will develop a thesis statement and provide 3 main supporting paragraphs to support the thesis. We will review this prior to the test.

Projects are due Tuesday, September 2

8/18/08 - Honors World History

We will continue to explore the origins, locations, structures and interactions of early civilizations. Our test will be Friday and covers Chapters 1-4.

Be sure to continue to read your text at home, review class notes, civilization chart and all review sheets done in class.

Don't forget your summer reading assignment. The test is 8/28/08.

8/18/08 - Honors US History

This week we continue to investigate the causes of the American Revolution. Remember to focus on the impact of the French and Indian War on British colonial policy.

Columbian Exchange disease research due Monday.

Test Unit 1 will be Friday - covers Chapters 1-4 (early settlement through the Revolution)

Also this week: Compare and Contrast - Boston Massacre and Kent State Massacre
Develop and create a revolutionary political cartoon
