Here are the assignments you were supposed to complete in class:

2nd period - Math 1
Assignments:
1) Probability worksheet on the front table. Read the front side and answer questions on the back.
2) Also, answer all questions on pages 35-41 in the Test Preparation and Practice workbook you got on Friday. You may do your work in the workbook, but final answers must be written on your own paper to turn in.
The probability worksheet and answers to pages 35-41 must be turned in by the end of the period.

3rd and 5th period- Honors Algebra II
Assignment: Work problems in Section 8.3 and 8.4 in their blue practice workbook. Do on your own paper and turned in by the end of the period. There are extra workbooks in the front of the room. This assignment will be graded for accuracy and count as their quiz. No quiz on Tuesday.

This schedule is very tentative. We have graduation testing this week, which affects juniors in our class as well as the schedule. Also, I am nearing my due date, so anything can happen! The teacher who is filling in for me while I'm out on maternity leave has been hired and is ready to start teaching at any time. She will pick up with the lessons and carry on with class so that all material is covered before the final exam in May.

Today in class we got a crash course in an amazing little number called i. Since application is infinitely more useful than memorization of the haphazard numerical identities of a letter, you have an extra credit assignment, if you choose to complete it. Find where the number i is used in that vast expanse we call the "real world" and write one paragraph (at least three sentences) on where and how it is used. This is for five extra credit points on your Chapter 5 quiz, but more importantly, it is for your educational enhancement! Due Wednesday when we get back from break.

The transformation of f(x)
If you add to a function you'll give it a lift,
for the graph will be moved with a vertical shift,
But if you multiply take a close look and see,
the graph's stretched by that factor vertically,
and negating the function will cause a reflection,
across the x-axis in an up-down direction.
But if you add before the function's used, hey
The shift's horizontal the opposite way!
And multiplication by a factor inside reveals,
the graph's being stretched by the reciprocal's
And negating the values before f is applied
reflects across the y axis--it flips side to side!

Welcome to Honors Algebra II! I look forward to getting to know each of you and working with you this semester. If you still need to download the summer prerequsite packet, please go to the Prerequisite Packets page of my blog and you can find it there. It will be due the Friday, August 17th.

All Honors Algebra II students need to have either a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator by the first Thursday of school. We have a limited number available through our school's book room, but upperclassmen get priority and there may be few, if any, available for freshmen. Buying one of these now will not only help students in this course, but in all of their other high school math courses, as well as in their college years.

Here is a look at our first week:
