May 12 2008 Landscape Design
The Home stretch...................... This is it. Your Landscape Design Final is 20% of your overall grade. You need to work really hard to complete the assignment, have it look professional and meet the customers needs. No more fooling around. Seniors you will present them on MONDAY MAY 19 during the regular class period.
Additional Requirments:
* excellent graphics & be creative
* outline house in fine pt. sharpie
* type a list of plant materials that are to be transplanted (from where to where)
* type a list of materials to be removed
* be prepared to introduce yourself and explain your design
Customer Requirments:
- open up the area
- use as many of the existing plant materils as possible
- he would like some grass
There are NO exceptions it is due on MAY 19, let me know if you need help, Ms H
May 5 Landscape Design
We are on the home stretch!!! All students need to be working on the FINAL PROJECT!!
You have:
A plat
Been to the site
Have a list of requests
What you should be doing NOW:
Using trash paper to organize your ideas & rough draft
Drawing the trees you would ike to save
Identifing plants you would like to relocate etc
ID TEST on MONDAY & ID NOTEBOOK DUE
TYE DYE T-SHIRTS ON WEDNESDAY (bring dye $ on Monday please)

April 28 Landscape Design
Jed Clampet designs have been graded. We will go over them in class on Monday.
Friday you SHOULD have placed the house & property lines on paper for your final project. Points will be taken off for those of you who did not do that, shame on you.
We go to meet our customer on Wednesady April 30. There will be a lot of transplanting and rearranging so be prepared with a camera and peice of paper and a tape measure.
We plan to leave school appx 11:45. We will eat at Waffle House in Paulding Co. across from the Wal-Mart on Dallas Hwy. and then meet our customer. We should return at no later than 3:15.
WE NEED PARENT DRIVERS/VOLUNTEERS. Please contact me if you can help us out.

Landscape Deign March 31
The Horticulture area of the consession area landscape plan is due on Wedneday 4-2-08, it is to include something to add to the area and a detail ( a photo from a magazine or catalog etc) NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED due to Spring Break. Many of you have been slack.....
We have the plant sale all week and everyone is expected to help, sell, water, deliver etc...
Seniors...32 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are going to travel for Spring Break bring back a cool plant or some soil.

March 24 Landscape Design
We are working on The Horticulture Area. You are to complete a scaled drawing of the Horticulture area and you are to add something that we need or would be a benefit for us. This is a good size project so DO NOT dink around. It should include one detail ( a picture of your addition). Hope hopefully you goy some good ideas after visting the Smith-Gilbert Arboretum last week. This project is DUE April 3. NO exceptions........... I would like to have a Spring Break too.........................

March 17 Landscape Design
We have several handouts and "mini lectures" this week .... not that should be a drag I just want you to be prepared and enjoy The Smith-Gilbert Arboretum this week! This is an awesome place. I want you to enjoy it and look at it through a critical eye or detail go further than than just the appearance.
We are aslo getting ready for the plant sale in a couple of weeks.
You will have an assignment , the horticulture area, this will be due before spring break so we can all go have relax.

March 10 Landscape Design
We are working on a Container assignment. We measured it Thursday 3-6-08 outside Admin II. You are to draw that in 2 different perscptiives, use 3-5 different plants, color it and use a graph paper grid for the scale. Please indicate the scale on your p[eice of graph paper. This is due on Wednesday. We will also use this for a bidding and estimating assignment so it is IMPORTANT to have your container drawn, colored & labeled by Wednesday so we can move forward.
Don't forget DAYLIGHT SAVINGS time starts Sunday so set your clocks ahead 1 hour. Let me know if you have any problems, Ms H
March 3 Landscape Design
Monday & Tuesday will be working on a "research" project................ We will be researching famous people and their indusrty contributions to the design field. All students will save their work in a power point format so EVERYONE will be able to benefit from your efforts. We will view these Wednesday & Thursday as Tuesday is early release. Feb 25 Landscape Design
Students have done an excellent job with their existing Home Landscape! Now you will create our own "dream landscape" for your home. Last week went over the How to Design a Landscape and the Prinicpals of Design, you are to apply those to your home. Design the landscape at your house as if were yours and money was no object.... these are due on Friday, Feb 29 at the end of class. Let me know if you have problems or concerns, Ms H

This week will begin to understand the Prinicpals of Landscape Design! We will read a chapter and do a work sheet yea I know ... but sometimes that is just the way it goes (it and REALLY it is the only one all semester so don't complain.We should spend 2 days on this (it is only a 3 day week) and begin another design only this one you get to design.This deign will be due Feb 29. Students need to identifyplants around their home as we will be placing them on the final landscape plan.Please find out the plants no LATER than Wednesday. If you do not know what they are please bring in a reasonable sample and I will help you. All plants need to be on the plan by THURSDAY.

Feb 4 Landscape Design
This week we are working on your home landscape. Things you need:
Plat or measure - you can check out a meauring tape from me on Monday
* Pictures* you were given written directions on where & how many picutes to take - due Wednesday
Base map of your home on paper by Friday.
In class we will discuss a bubble diagram.
You need to start a list of what plants & where they are in your home landscape so, styart bringing samples if you need help!

Wednesday: SE FLOWER SHOW AT THE WORLD CONGRESS CENTER!!!! ( Bus $ & permission slips need to be in on Monday in order to go...)
Thursday:Review the SE Flower Show & turn in assignment
Friday: Next project, your Home Landscape. Students need to take pictures & print them of their home. If someone can locate a PLAT Plan that would be excellent! Tuesday: Return letters & symbols drawing.How to measure & record measurements, measure the GH, shed 1 & shed 2
Wed -Friday Draw a title block, the green house, shed 1 & shed 2 on a 10 scale the drawing is due on Friday.

May 21 Landscape Design
Final presentations will be given today. Mrs Hood and possibly Mr Hood will be there for you to present your plan to them. We will do as many as we can and SENIORS will go first!
You should have your drawing, a typed plant list & estimated costs. Anyone who would like to work for The Hoods this summer need to put your name & number on a sheet pf paper that the customer will keep. If you need some help with that this summer I'll be around so you can give me a call!
This has been a great semester and I will miss you seniors........ good luck at college and remember to email me with your college email and look at plants every where you travel! Have a great summer!!!! Ms H
May 14 Landscape Design
This it it, your last week to work on your Landscape Design Final. It should be a stellar combination of everything we have learned. Please leave yourself enough ttime to type a materials/plant list and provide priceing for those as well. April 30
landscape design
We worked on some projects last week and wrapped those up, things are really looking good in the Hort Area.....
This week we will begin our Shrub ID and add this to you existing plant collection. So go look under the bed or on top of the closet to find it and bring it in.
Thursday May 3 we go on our Feild Trip to Mrs. Hoods home. She is our customer for our Landscape Design FINAL. We will measure the site, take pictures and she will provide us with a list of criteria. EACH student WILL present their own creative project to Mrs. Hood. This should be your best work!!!!! Hang in there seniors we can make it! Let me know if I can help, Ms. H

Landscape design
We will perform a role play this week with your Jed Clampet designs. This will help perpare you for the FINAL DESIGN!!! We will also do some phyiscal projects and start to collect some shrub samples for your ID collection
We meet on April 30 for our feild trip to Mrs. Hoods house (our customer for the final) Hang in there guys!

This week we will be getting ready for the plant sale! The sale is Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 9-3:00.
Please invite your family to the sale and they are welcome to come during your class time. If you go some where for Spring Break please bring something back like a plant , seeds or a soil sample. Enjoy the much needed break! Be safe and make smart choices, Ms. H
Landscape Design March 19
Students will complete a scaled drawing of the Horticulure area. Each student will add one NEW element to the horticulutre area. This new element will include a well documented detail. This is due n Friday March 23.

March 12 Landscape Design
We begin our scaled drawing of the Horticulture area this week. We will take measurements in groups of 2. The goal is draw the entire area to scale and to add one thing to the area that would benefit all students in the future.
We will also be looking at some pictures and possibly a video on the environment and environmental design.
Many of you have your cuttings to pot up...................... It looks like nice weather this week. We will also be getting ready for the plant sale at the end of the month. Seniors hang in there!

March 5 Landscape Design
This week we will draw a container with 2 views and color it as well as select plants to go in it. We will also price the "job" and discuss the differance between a bid and an estimate. We will also discuss the cost of doing business. We will crunch some numbers on sod and seed installation. This is a small project with pricing and bidding this is so important if you plan on performing any work in this field. Let me know if you need any help, Mrs. H

Welcome back!!! How was the mid winter break? I hope you went somewhere and looked at the landscape........
We start with Principals of Landscape Design this week and a "survey". Now we begin the next phase of your home landscape........ and that is to treat the house as if you owned it and money was no object, what kind of theme/landscape would you have??????????????????????? This will be done as an over lay (using trash paper or bum wad) on your base map. Remember the front area is public and the rear area is private. Students will have one week to work on this. So be present and let's get this done! That would hopefully mean no late assignments please. Let me know if you need help, Mrs. H
Feb 12 The home landscape projects have been graded. I will go over them with each of you on Monday. Some students will have some follow up work to be done. We will use your home landscape in 2 more applications. We will also be useing the photos that went with the project. Last week you were to ask about a plat plan. If you (or your folks) could not find one you needed to check out a measuring tape or wheel and measure your house and property lines as well as take pictures of your house(directions were given).
Monday we will begin a base map of your home landscape. We will be doing a lot of things with this project! You need to have all of this information in class on Monday, if not you will be behind............
I gave 3 sets of handouts last week you will need these also. This week we have a terms packet to learn. The base map and home landscape plan is due on Friday Feb 9. You will need to know the plants at your house if your are uncertain please bring in samples and I will help you identify them. We ahve a busy week ahead! Please let me know if you any help, Mrs. H

A great trip to the Garden & Patio Show! Thank you! This week we are moving along..............We talked about a Plat and I asked you to check with your folks. We will learn how to measure this week and to measure your stride or paces. I have 3 handouts for you as we begin our HOME LANDSCAPE PROJECT. This is a big deal as will use this in many ways. You will need to photograph you home and I have instructions for you on that. The home landscape project is due Feb 9 at the beginning of class. Please contact me if you any questions, Mrs. H.

OK, this is it! Seniors you will present your designs first on Tuesday as that is your last day. Everyone else will present their project to Mr. Brown after seniors. After Tuesday your final will be presented to myself and Mrs. Clement and possibly another guest.
The COOK OUT was the best ever on Friday I had fun and able to eat and relax for a change!!!! For many
of you this is your last Horticulute Class, I ' m sad but wish you well and know where you can find me. Remember plants are cool look at them where ever you go you have so many opportunites ahead of you....

We went last week to Elsa Browns' home and took some measurements for our final project. Some numbers are interesting to say the least................ 2 people from class will go back and double check a few of those. At the very least you should have a titlwe block and a property line on your paper. There is enough information to have a portion of the house on the paper. We have a photo board and the customers requests. This is your final 10% of your grade. You will present your ideas to the home owner on Monday May 22. Please do your best work and your cleanest graphics! Good luck! They may pay some students to actually perform some of the work over the summer!!

Students will recieve information about their final project! Our last project is a real customer. We will visit her home on Tuesday May 9. We will only be away from school durring 3 period. The purpose of the trip is to see the site and take measurements. This should be your best project. All students will present their own project to our customer, Elsa Brown.

Jed Clampet designs and bids have been graded and will be rerutned to you today and we will review them. The next project will be The Horticulture Area. We will come a master plan for our area. This should start on Tuesdaywill learn how to measure in the feild and transfer those measurements to our plan. This will be due Wednesday/Thursday next week. Welcome back! Hope spring break was resrtful and fun for all. The semester is winding to a close only 35 days left and still lots of ground to cover.....
Monday & Tuesday we will work on the perennail bed and regroup from the plant sale. That should get us back into the swing of things. Wednesday we will review Chapter 16 finally, yes I have your papers. This is to review the principals of design and be able to apply them for your next project which is The Jed Clampet Residence.
PLEASE SHARPEN YOUR PENCILS!!!! We should work on this for 6 to 7 days. That means it will be due at the end of next week April 20 or 21. Let me know if you have any questions............ Ms H

We ahve graduation tests this week. I have a junior homeroom and will be testing with them.
We will review the perennail bed designs that were turned in last week. We will be doing a lot of Greenhouse work this week.
Those students who are not testing will work on their final home landscape. This is due Friday.
We will have an early spring plant sale next Thursday and Friday.
It will be an interesting week!!!

This week students will use the base maps they have drawn for their home landscape. Students will place existing plant materials on a peice of "bum wad". If you are unsure of the types or names of plants in your yard please bring in samples.
Students will also start a PGP after completing Plant Data Sheets for each crop.

My mom passed away last Tuesday. So we will bew regrouping this week from last weeks plans. Thank You .

This week students will read chapter 16 and define the objectives and terms at the beginning of the chapter as well as answer thew review questions at the end of the chapter.

We are now working on your Home Landscpe Project.
Hopefully you have talked to folks about a Plat........ Due on Wednesday is your Base Map, Site Survey(s), and your Photos. This is a multi level project! We will draw your existing landscape as well as a knew landscape. Then we will select one plan to place on the final Base Map Project. This is a useful document and can go with your parents house papers.
We are scheduled for a feild trip on Thus Feb 2 to the Garden & Patio Show at the Cobb Galleria Center. Please have all permission slips and bas fare in on Mondat Jan 30. Students may purchase l;unch at the show, it tends to be expensive.....
