Dec 8 Floriculture
The last full week and it looks something like this
Monday: cahpter 3 Fresh Foliage. We will read the chapter and answer all of the review questions.
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday we will be creating a center peice for the holidays.
You will need to bring in 3 lemons or limes or 3 small red apples (Tuesday or Wednesday)
If you have access to any southern Magnolias, PLEAE, PLEASE,PLEASE bring them in on Monday
Friday you have 1 last day to work on your PGP part II. This is due on Monday Dec 15
It should be typed with an introduction, an outline formatt and a closing summary, rubric was given out last week in class.

Nov 17 Floriculture
WOW, the week before Thanksgiving break....... the week ahead looks like this
I have graded your PGP & will return them to you on Monday with your resume. We will breifly go over PART II of the project, we will work on this in earnest on Dec 1. Dress warm on Monday we are going out to collect Pine boughs. Each persdon should have a partner and fill 1 large black trash bag.
Tues - Wed we will be making a garland/pine roping, each person will make 5' of roping.
Friday - Spices from around the world!
If you are traveling for the holiday, PLEASE bring back a soil sample or a plant sample from something you did not know what it was.

Nov 10 Floriculture
This week consists of a lot of odds & ends..................Monday review Resume requirements, if you have that from a previous Hort class, life is good. You need to update it and print it. If you do not have one, cann't find it etc. we will be going to the computer lab on Tuesday. Some suggestions, you may want to email your resume to yourself so you can access it from school/home.
Wednesday - Friday we will be working on Okra Santas, pine cones for the holidays and pine roping.
Please bring in some pine cones appx 6-10 per person.
Please take your pumpkin centerpieces home and out of the pot shed!
No PGPs are excepted after Friday 11-7-08 unless it is an excused absence.

Monday: read chapter 4 "Design Principals" & answer all review questions
Tuesday: Student Holiday/Election Day
Wednesday:We begin our Fall Center Peice Arrangement. YOU NEED A PUMPKIN this is your container
Thursday: PGP Part I is due, this should be just like your Intro PGP assignment with the addition of a compare & constrast opinion of your soil selections
Friday: Complete Fall center peice
The Fall colors are BEAUITFULL, take a hike and enjoy them, Ms H

We will be potting up your PGP (personal growing project) into larger containers
* 6" pots & 10" pots
* Record observations
* Keep Track of Plant Counts
* Cost analysis for crop production

Oct 13 Floriculture
We will be working on The history of Floriculture (chap 2) this week. We are going to continue with our last leaf art project. We will use fabric paint & leaves to make an impression on a T-shirt, sweat shirt or hand towel.
Students need to bring in at least 1 item to work with on MONDAY! Please wash the item at home and remember lighter colored fabrics work best.

Oct 6 Floriculture
All of our physical projects are now behind us! We will begin our Fall Wreath or dried arrangement project on Monday. This involves a grape vine wreath, leaves,ornaments and yes a bow. We will learn to tie a bow this week. This fall wreath should take us a week to complete.Please be pateint as their are a lot of you and one of me!
I have most of the materials if you have a chance to collect acrons, pine cones or flower seed pods please bring them in. Thanks so much, Ms H

We are working on our plant ID cards this week.
PLEASE check & record information on your PGP this is a HUGE PROJECT and a large part of your grade this semester.................................. This should be you 7 day observation

You should be finishing up your PGP propagation work. We begin our ID portion of the semester this week. We will spend the the next 2 weeks on this. So be prepared, you need those 4x6 cards I have been telling you about!

It PGPtime! I will go over the packets on Monday and hope fully make selections. Tuesday do research and propagte starting Wednesday. We are still working on our physical projects. I will need to get more lumber. YOU need to be prepared in case of RAIN. That means YOU NEED TO HAVE LARGE FLASH CARDS to make your herbaecous ID collections!

Please bring in a package of 5 X 7 Flash Cards (the big ones) on Monday. These are for your herbeacous plant ID collection. We will be working on your group construction projects this week. You MUST have CLOSED TOED SHOES to work outside, no exceptions.
Tuesday & Thursday are Open House. Please tell your parents I will not be here Thursday night, encourage them to come on Tuesday. Let me know if you need elp with anything, Ms H
