August 25-August 29

On Monday of this week, we will have our first major written test, covering chps.1 and 2 in the textbook. This first test will be open note. The student may use whatever classnotes they may have, as well as anything they've noted from the textbook. This does mean a little studying isn't still in order, however! You will at least need to be familiar enough with your notes to recognize where in your notes particular information might be found!

HOMEWORK Mon. night - Study Chp.3, Section 1

On Tuesday, we'll be discussing the benefits of our free enterprise system in the United States (Chp.3, Section 1). We'll cover the basic principles of free enterprise, as well as the basic roles of the consumer and the government in the free enterprise system. (Refer: Ga. Econ. standards 4 and 5) We will also see part 1 of a short video on the role of the entrepreneur in our economy.

HOMEWORK Tues. night - Study Chp.3, Section 2

Wednesday we'll cover how our government acts to promote growth and stability in our economy. (Refer: Ga. Econ. standard 5). We will also see part 2 of our brief video on entrepreneurship.

HOMEWORK Wed. night - Study Chp.3, Section 3
- If you can, watch the roll call vote of the states tonight at the Democratic National
Convention

On Thursday, we'll discuss public goods and positive and negative externalities (Refer: Ga. Econ. standard 5). We will also see a brief video presentationj on the importance of August 28th in our recent history, leading up to Senator Obama's acceptance speech tonight (BY THE WAY, IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING, WE WILL FOLLOW EVENTS AT THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION NEXT WEEK EQUALLY CLOSELY!)

HOMEWORK Thurs. night - Study Chp.3, Section 4
- If you can, watch Barack Obama's acceptance speech tonight at the
Democratic Convention

Friday we'll fnish up chp.3 with a look at the "safety net" our economic system provides for those who are needy (Refer: Ga. Econ. standard 5)..
We will also watch and discuss excerpts of Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention. On the Republican side, Senator John McCain is set to announce his running mate on this date. If we know who it is by classtime, we'll try to fit that in, too! If not, we'll discuss it on Monday.

HOMEWORK Fri.-Mon. 8/29-9/1 (a three-day holiday weekend!) Study carefully ALL of Chp. 4, Sections 1, 2, and 3.
