Mrs. Heiges
Hello! I am in my ninth year of teaching. I taught for 5 years, from 1984-1989, at Parkview HS in Gwinnett County. Then, I stayed home 16 years, raising sons and tutoring HS and college students. I returned to teach at Harrison in 2005, after having subbed here for several years.
I have my bachelor's degree in chemistry from North Georgia College in Dahlonega. I also have my master's degree in science education with an emphasis in chemistry from Georgia State University in Atlanta. I took the AP Chem teachers' course in 1986 and again in 2006 as well as Reform in Chemistry Teaching in 2007. I am certified to teach chemistry and am also gifted-certified in science.
While at Parkview, I taught physical science, chemistry, and AP Chemistry. Since being at Harrison, I've had the pleasure of teaching on-level chemistry, honors chemistry, and AP Chemistry.
At Harrison, I am a co-sponsor of the National Honor Society along with Mr. Joe League. I share responsibilities for the Harrison Science Team and Harrison Science Olympiad with Dr. Shelley Howerton.
I do the bulk of my teaching by delivering information on the white board, working problems and soliciting input and feedback from the students. Therefore, I will have few powerpoints available for download here on the blog. Students must be present to interact and learn in class.
My schedule for Fall of 2008 is as follows:
2nd pd - AP Chemistry
3rd pd - plan and prepare
4th pd - Honors Chemistry
5th pd - Honors Chemistry
I enjoy reading, cross-stitch, geocaching, hiking, working with the Boy Scout Troop, and spending time with my family. I have three wonderful sons, an incredible husband and a Toller. I love hearing from my former students : )
