Agenda:
1. How do I use new vocabulary? (assessment)
2. No journal or DGP today
3. 2nd period: finish Fitzgerald Film (how does Historical Context affect literature?)
4. How can I analyze literature through examining symbols and characterization? ( Color carousel brainstorm; Read and discuss ch. 1 of Gatsby)
Gatsby Reading Schedule: Download file

Note: for Chapters 1-3 for Monday--please be sure to note:
- the description of Gatsby's house
-The description of Tom's house
- color associations with characters/character descriptions (Tom, Daisy, Jordan, Nick). Look particularly at indirect characterization--things the characters say/do.
-The description of the Valley of Ashes in ch. 2
- Myrtle Wilson's description in ch. 2
- The FRAGMENTEDNESS/ DISJOINTEDNESS of the party in ch. 2 (how does this connect to modern themes)
- Gatsby's Party in ch. 3-- describe it, the kinds of guests who attend, how this relates to Fitzgerald's life (think about the story about the guys driving the wrecked car...what does this reveal?)
- The description of Gatsby-- things he says/doesn't say
- Think about CARS as a symbol/motif--think about what bad driving reveals about a person
