NOTE: IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO GATSBY AS YOUR PAPER FOR THE RESEARCH PAPER, YOU MUST SEE ME ON MONDAY MORNING OR AFTERNOON OR WEDNESDAY MORNING NEXT WEEK. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Choose one of the following topics:

1.Choose one theme (E.G. carelessness, money as a corruptor, responsibility, perspective) from the novel and discuss how Fitzgerald weaves the theme through The Great Gatsby. Be sure to discuss the significance of the theme.

2.Choose one symbol (E.G. cars, flowers, water) from the novel and discuss how Fitzgerald weaves the symbol through The Great Gatsby. Be sure to discuss the significance of the symbol.

-The description of Tom's house
- color associations with characters/character descriptions (Tom, Daisy, Jordan, Nick). Look particularly at indirect characterization--things the characters say/do.
-The description of the Valley of Ashes in ch. 2
- Myrtle Wilson's description in ch. 2
- The FRAGMENTEDNESS/ DISJOINTEDNESS of the party in ch. 2 (how does this connect to modern themes)
- Gatsby's Party in ch. 3-- describe it, the kinds of guests who attend, how this relates to Fitzgerald's life (think about the story about the guys driving the wrecked car...what does this reveal?)
- The description of Gatsby-- things he says/doesn't say

Friday morning at 12:01 am, the Great Gatsby competition begins. There will be a prize for the FAMILY with the most posts. This competition ends November 13 at 11:59 pm. The prize will be determined by Ms. Dobbs and will be a surprise. In order to receive credit for a post, the student must add NEW material to the GATSBY/Modern section of our wiki, and the post must be at least 3 sentences!

Due to an egregious oversight on my part, I will not be able to help students after school on Friday. I am in the Homecoming parade and will be leaving school early.

As such, I am pushing the due date of your TSL Rewrite back ONE day. Your rewrite is now due Tuesday 10/7 IN CLASS. You need to turn in with your paper the following: 1) your new paper; 2) your rubric for the NEW paper; 3) your OLD paper with all drafts and rubrics and Turnitin.com reports
