Directions for using Windows Movie Maker to create a video slide show:
1.Open up Windows Movie Maker from your applications box
2.Also open up Internet Explorer from your applications box
3.You can switch back and forth between these two applications without using your mouse by holding down the ALT button and simultaneously pressing TAB.
4.You should have already started a file in your home directory or on a flash drive called “MY MOVIE” (or whavever). Be sure to save EVERYTHING for the movie in this file.
5.Download pictures from a disk or from the internet (be sure to CITE by copying the web address of the picture onto a word document) and save them in your movie folder. Make sure you have almost every picture/piece of video footage that you need for this movie (probably about 20-30 depending on how many quotes you use) BEFORE you start creating your film.
6.Once you have everything downloaded (and cited when necessary) into your folder, you may begin using Movie Maker.
To Use Movie Maker:
1.On the left side of the screen, click on the link that says IMPORT PICTURES.
2.Find the folder (your folder) that has all of your pictures, highlight them all ( by holding down SHIFT and then moving with the arrow keys to make sure they are all highlighted), and then click upload. Your pictures should show up in your movie maker section.
3.To put the pictures into your movie, click on each one and then drag it down to the storyboard (gray strip at the bottom of the page). NOTE: you can click back and forth between timeline and storyboard. You want to use storyboard for putting in pictures and quotes and transitions, while timeline is effective for working on sound and length of movie. Be sure you are in the storyboard view (look at the little toolbar directly above the grey strip) in order to input pictures.
4.Once you have your pictures, I suggest you upload some sound. See Ms. Dobbs for this, or follow the directions by clicking on the left at IMPORT AUDIO or MUSIC.
5.BE SURE TO SAVE YOUR WORK PERIODICALLY! Just click File, Save, and make sure your movie is saved in the SAME PLACE AS YOUR PICTURES AND AUDIO!
6.You can add in quotes or titles by looking in the edit movie section on the left. Follow the directions and ask Ms. Dobbs for troubleshooting. Work on your movie until it is finished. It should run anywhere between 2-3 minutes.
7.When you are completely finished and do not want to edit any more, THEN click Finish Movie on the left side of the screen. Be sure to SAVE BEFORE YOU CLICK FINISH!
8.Ask Ms. Dobbs or Mr. Penick Or Ms. Freeman if you need help! ;)
