Essential Question? How does one use the elements and principles of design to complete a design project?

Continue to work on Tote Bag.
Each step in the sewing process will be demonstrated.
The Goal is for each of the totes to be completed by Friday.
I will be available on Tuesday and Friday afternoon from 3:30 - 4:45 for help sessions.

If students finish tote, they will research housing styles through the ages. Students can choose a group (only 5 total allowed in each group). Once group is chosen, group will decide which housing style they want to construct with cardboard. Over the weekend, each student will bring in the necessary supplies (graham crackers, candy, frosting, etc.) to complete House.

The fabric that was ordered wholesale has arrived. The students who ordered need to bring in $13.00 for 1-5/8 yards of fabric. If a check is written, please make it payable to Harrison High School. THe students will still need to purcahse a 7" zipper and the ribbon to match the fabric.
Demonstration on how to place pattern on fabric.
Students cut out fabric using pattern.
Students will be assigned a sewing partner.

Thursday and Friday
Demonstration on how to press handles of tote and sew on ribbon.
Each student will sew on ribbon to handle. If student does not want ribbon and alternative finishing technique will be demonstrated.

Monday - Review Chapter 18 The Role of Color in Design. After review, Chapter 18 quiz.
Students need to tell me by know by Friday if they want me to order double sided quilted fabric or if they are going to purchase it themselves.
Supply letters will go home today and need to be signed by THURSDAY.
Please look online at fabri-quilt.com to look at the double-sided quilted fabrics that I can order for the wholesale price through school. When you go into the site-click Products and then find quilted fabrics. There are 59 choices.
The fabric will cost $8.00 per yard. The same fabric can be purchased at fabric.com for $17.98 per yard.
The quality of the fabric is very good.

Intro to Interior Design October 20-24

The learner will be able to create a design and expalin each element used in the design.

Essential Questions for the week.
What effect does intensity and value have on various hues?
What factors need to be considered when planning a color scheme?

Monday - Using tempra paints, choose one cool color and one warm color and complete the activity for intensity and value.
Using tempra paints - illustrate the neutral and near-neutral colors on the worksheet.

Tuesday - Power Point presentation on COLOR SCHEMES
Wednesday - Using the 6 color schemes introduced (monochromatic, analogous, triadic, complementary, double-complementary and split-complementary) and handouts of different rooms (bedroom, kitchen, living room and dining room), choose different rooms to create a monochromatic, analougous, triadic, coomplenemtary, doulbe-complementary, and split complementary color scheme. Label each room with the color scheme used. 6 color schemed rooms will be turned in for a grade.

QUIZ ON COLOR WILL BE MONDAY.
Thursday - I will be taking each class to Senior Year Survivor, a play by the drama department. If time allows, students will finish color schemes

Today in class I am going to show the students the samples of fabric that is available. I will send a letter home detailing the Monogrammed Tote Bag Project and the fabric that is needed.

Monday and Tuesday - Continue to work on Sewing Pillow. Pillow needs to be done by the end of class on Tuesday.
Continue to work on magazine project for Chapter 1. Imagine what type of home you will live in when you are 20,45, and 70. Find 2 pictures of exterior of homes and 2 pictures of interior of homes that represent the lifestyles of ages 20, 45, and 70. Glue pictures creatively to construction paper and explain how these pictures reflectg your goals at each of these stages of life.

The following Standards will be addressed while completing the Career Brochures. After students research career and create a brochure, the brochure will be shared with the class. The students will take notes on each career preseted and will have knowledge of at least 25 career opportunities in the field of interior design.

check fabric samples for drapery treatment, duvet cover, pillow sham/s, and bed skirt.

use scaled room plan and place furniture in a pleasing arrangement that is different from the current arrangement of bedroom
figure out total cost for window treatment, and custom bedding

Thursday -use bedroom window measurements and window treatment design to calculate the cost for fabric, lining, interlining, trim, etc and labor.

I am going to purchase the mat board and foam core from Dick Blick. They will give a 20% discount for schools. I will also purchase the spray adhesive and cutters to cute the board and foam core. The cost will be $5.00. The money needs to be brought in by Monday. THank You.
Also needed by Monday is the fabric for the window treatment and the bedding. Students went to Decorating Mart when we went on the field trip to IKEA. They all chose fabric. If they have changed their design, they need to bring in the new fabric.

Intro to Interior Design Blocks 3 and 4

Monday - Create a color wheel with the pirmary colors of paint
Use one cool color and one warm color from the color wheel to create intensity by adding white and black to the color
Tuesday- Power Point on Impact of Color - Use colored pencils to create a variety of color schemes using cool colors, warm colors, contrasting, related and emphasis. Finish Chapter 18 worksheets if they were not completed on Friday
Wednesday - Psychology of Color handouts. work in groups to create a group color design
Thursday - Power Point on Color Schemes-begin color scheme worksheets
Friday- Use colored pencils to create color schems for -monochromatic, triadic, analogous, complementary, double-complementary, split-complementary, neutral and accented nuetral


Fundamentals of Interior Design Block 5

Monday - Complete floor plan project of classroom
For hw - measure your bedroom - remember to measure all windows, doors, and furniture- This will be due on Thursday
Tuesday - Wednesday - PowerPoint Presentation of Chapter 3 Planning Living Spaces

EQ? How do I identiofy types of career and qualifications found in the field of commercial and residential intreior design and what are the alternative career ladders in those fields? CT.FACS. 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5

Monday - I will check for pillow supplies on Wednesday - worth 5 points
Computer lab to continue research on Career Brochure
Tuesday - Finish Career Brochure in computer lab - due Wednesday
Wednesday - turn in Career Brochures
Each table will make an 18" pattern out of paper for the pillow
Thursday and Friday - cut bias strips for cording and sew fabric onto bias strips
Anone who has not completed Practice Sewing sheets 1 and 2 will continue to work on those to complete

Standard PS1 The learner will be able to identify career opportunities in commercial and residentail interior design and the employment qualifications.

Essential Question? CT FACS 1.3 and 1.4
How does one identify and outline types of careers found in the field of commercial and residential interior design and the qualifications, preparatiuon, training and education needed?

Tuesday - Students pick one of the 28 careers that will be researched. A career brochure will be the final product.
Students will be given:
* template to use for brochure
* sample resume and worksheeet to take notes
Students research out of interior design book.
Parent signature for Pillow Porject is due on Thursday.
Wednesday - Research in Media Center signed supply list for pillow project due tomorrow
Thursday - Video on Fabrics - take notes - Quiz on video
practice using sewing machine - if supply list was not signed by parent-bring in Friday
Friday - research in Room 113 computer lab.

Power Point presentation of sewing machine parts - practice sewing on sewing machine using paper

Monday - return graded Elements of Design Picture Project. Return graded Chapter 17 Elements of Design with Power Point notes. Discuss answers to Chap. 17 worksheet. Quiz will be tomorow

3rd Block - Level 3 and 4

Monday and Tuesday - Student Holiday
Wednesday - Permission sheet for Field Trip to IKEA will be sent home today. The cost will be $5.00. We will be taking the class to IKEA with parent and teacher volunteer drivers rather than taking the school bus. Students who go on field trip will also have to bring money for lunch.
Wednesday - Friday Continue to present Power Points of English, French and American Furniture Designers
Work on upholstered chair and individual sewing projects for the class


4th and 5th Block Intro to Interior Design

Monday and Tuesday - Student Holiday
Wednesday -Fabric is due today for the monogrammed tote for 5 points.
Class will work in groups of 4 to make a paper pattern for the tote.
Thursday - Pattern will be placed on fabric and cut out correctly following teacher demonstration
Review on the use and care of the sewing machine
Friday-Power Point on Elements of Design - worksheets and magazine project will be given.
