am, is, are....they seem small and insignifcant. However, they lead to the demise of all good writers. As a writer, verbs provide you power and voice to reach your reader. "TO BE" verbs lack power. Eliminate "TO BE" verbs from your writing, and you discover an author's voice in your pen!

The Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships annually in the amount of $1500, $1000, and $750 to high school seniors through an essay writing contest.

The Cobb County School District Virtual Library is a database of articles, journals, etc. approved for use during this research project and your research paper. Follow the directions below to access this site from home.

• Go to http://cvl.cobbk12.org

• Select “High”

• Select one of the following databases:
1. Gale Literature Resource Center
2. eLibrary
• username for Gale and eLibrary – cobbhs
• password for Gale and eLibrary – three

3. Galileo
• password for Galileo – fallback (valid 8/31/08 to 12/12/08)

Once you select the database and log-in, begin your search on your topic. These sources provide a wealth of information on every topic imaginable. Be creative with keyword arrangements and persistent in searches.
