Brit. Lit. - Week of Oct. 27th

Research Essential Question: How can using information from primary and secondary sources (using Cobb Virtual Library) help me produce writing of appropriate organizational structure with a coherent focus? (ELA12W1, W2, W3, W4)

Vocab and Daily Grammar Practice Essential Question: How can demonstrating correct usage of grammar and vocabulary help you improve your writing? (ELA12C1, C2)

Macbeth Essential Question - How can identifying and analyzing dramatic elements aid in our understanding and interpretation of the play? (ELABLR 1, 2, 3).

Monday - Begin Vocab. 10, tossing lines and Act 1, scenes i, ii, and iii of Macbeth.
Tuesday - Vote in mock election, Vocab. 10, S/V agreement practice continues, Macbeth -Act I - scenes iv-vi. HW: Lit. terms #2 quiz tomorrow.
Wednesday - Lit. terms #2 quiz, Vocab. 10, pronoun agreement practice. Macbeth - finish Act I and begin study guide.
Thursday - Vocab. 10, pronoun agreement practice continues. Review Act I and begin ACT II of Macbeth, scenes _____. HW: Vocab. 10 quiz will be moved to MONDAY, Nov. 3rd due to me being out on Friday.
Friday -Journal writing, watch video of Macbeth.

Don't forget to study for Vocab. 10 quiz on Monday.

SAT Prep - Week of Oct. 27th

Monday - Vocab. 2 quiz, continue work with grammar and read in blue books pages 108-118 working on exercises.
Tuesday - Vote in mock election, go to lab to type essay from Friday, continue with grammar and essay work from Monday. DO NOT FORGET FOOD/ITEMS FOR BREAKFAST ON WEDS.
Weds. - SAT breakfast - a good strategy for the test is to eat a good breakfast the morning of the test. Vocab. 3, continue with grammar - pronoun agreement.
Thursday - Review vocab. 3 for quiz and grammar packet.
Friday - I will be out today and am expecting a good report!! You will continue with grammar practice, Vocab. video and a writing activity.

Research First Draft - Extra Credit

Please complete the following assignment by Monday, October 27th for extra credit points added to Research First Draft. I will not accept this extra credit after Monday, October 27th by your class period.

**In journal and paragraph format, please address the following questions and prompts. The more you write and the more detailed and elaborate your reflection, the more points you can earn up to 5.

Did you finish your novel by the recommended due date?
Did you use your time wisely in the media center?
When did you begin writing this research paper?
How many drafts have you written?
Who edited your paper?
What do YOU know needs to be done to improve your paper?
How often did you use the Research Guide to give you instruction or guidance?
What would you change about the way YOU approached this assignment?
What did you find successful about this process (from research to writing)?
How well did follow instructions for this process? If not very well, why not?
What grade do you think this first draft deserves?

Add any additional comments that you think I should know. Bring this to class to turn in. It does not have to be typed.

Please be prepared to continue a rigorous schedule next week as we begin Macbeth.

Vocab and Daily Grammar Practice essential question: How can demonstrating correct usage of grammar and vocabulary help you improve your writing? (ELA12C1, C2)

Monday - Turn in Works Cited page and outline. Begin Vocab. 9. Notes on Intro. and Conclusion paragraphs. Notes on Renaissance. Read pages 222-232 in textbook.
Tuesday - Vocab. 9, notes on incorporating quotes and citations. Continue notes on Renaissance, Shakespeare and Macbeth.
Weds. - Vocab. 9, sample research papers, last day for questions!!! Notes on Macbeth. Begin play if time permits.
Thursday - Vocab. 9, Senior play in theater, Macbeth.

FRIDAY - FIRST DRAFTS DUE - no lates, no absences, NO EXCUSES!!
Vocab. 9 quiz, Macbeth.

Monday - Vocab. 1 quiz, notebook check, work with Subj./verb agreement errors.

SAT Prep - Week of October 13th

Welcome to SAT Prep! I'm excited to get to know you and help you practice and prepare for the SAT. Be sure that you get your notebook set up by Monday, October 20th. Divider information is in your syllabus. Have last sheet of syllabus signed and returned. Note that the following agenda may change as needed.

Monday - Intro., class policies, diagnostic test #1.
Tuesday - Begin get to know you activity. Vocab. 1 words, diagnostic test #2
Wednesday - PSAT TESTING/Early Release. No classes meet.
Thursday - continue with vocab. 1, continue introductions, writing sample, ident. sent. errors if time permits.
Friday - continue with sentence errors, finish vocab. 1, diagnostic test #3.

FOR MONDAY: Notebook check and vocab. 1 quiz. Turn in signed syllabus!

Brit. Lit. - Week of Oct. 13th

OCTOBER 17TH - next important deadline: Annotated Bibliography, Secondary Sources and Final Thesis!

Research Essential Question: How can using a systematic strategy such as the Annotated Bibliography help during the research process? (ELA12W3:f)

We will be in the media center on Monday and Tuesday to continue secondary research for the research paper (ELA12W3). Don't forget change!!

We will take a break on vocabulary for this week to focus on the research paper. We will continue to work on grammar as classtime permits later in the week.

Weds. - PSAT testing. No classes meet. Students not testing will report to study hall. EARLY RELEASE too!
Thursday - continue working on practice for Annotated Bib. and citing sources (ELA12W3). Begin discussing outline and map, which are due next week.
Friday - Students will have the opportunity to work in the lab to begin typing outline and/or Works Cited page.

FOR MONDAY, OCT. 20TH - Outline/map and typed Works Cited page are due!

Brit. Lit. research - Cobb Virtual Library

Cobb Virtual Library -- use it from home!
How to use Cobb Virtual from home:
1. From the HHS webpage, under "Academics," choose "Cobb Virtual Library." This is the second entry down.
2. Select the "High" school area.
3. Scroll to the FOURTH red area down, labeled "Literature and Criticism."
4. Use the passwords below as needed.
5. Type in your novel title and/or your author's name to see what criticism (secondary source info) is available.
Remember that you must incorporate THREE secondary sources. They don't have to be all from the Internet, however. The media center offers excellent books as secondary sources.

SAT Prep - Oct. 6-10

Monday - Work on vocab. 7 and passage-based reading. Plan breakfast which is Weds.
Tuesday - Lab, packet on passage-based reading.
Weds. - Breakfast, review for packet, review vocab., post tests
Thursday - Vocab. 1-7 test and continue with post tests
Friday - FINAL EXAMBe sure to bring your bathroom passes.

I've really enjoyed these last 9 weeks and hope that you have learned all you need to be successful on the English portion of the SAT. On Monday, Oct. 14th you will report to Room 414 for your Math class. Good Luck!!

Research Essential Question: How can using a systematic strategy such as the Annotated Bibliography help during the research process? (ELA12W3:f)

We will be in the media center on Monday to begin secondary research for the research paper (ELA12W3). On Tuesday, students take the Middle Ages test and continue with First Knight comparing and contrasting the film to the literature. (ELABLR1 and 3)

We will take a break on vocabulary for the next two weeks to focus on the research paper. We will continue to work on grammar.

Weds. - finish film and begin notes on the Annotated Bibliography (ELABLRL4).
Thursday - continue notes on Annotated Bib. and citing sources (ELA12W3).
Friday - Intro. to Reniassance and work on grammar.

Media Center for Monday and Tuesday - bring change!!
