WORLD LITERATURE - 10/1/07-10/5/07

Homecoming Week! Monday - Gilligan Island Day, Tuesday - Hawaiian day, Wednesday - Castaway Day, Thursday - Pirate Day, Friday - spirit day. Pep rally and parade schedule to follow.

Vocabulary 6 quiz will be on Thursday this week rather than Friday due to the homecoming activities.

Monday - Vocab. 6, DGP #7, Journal 1-4 due today, more notes on essay. Thesis is due today as well.
Tuesday - Vocab. 6, DGP #7, notes on quote incorporation. The typed rough draft essay will be due on FRIDAY for a grade.
Wednesday - Vocab. 6, DGP #7, continue working on essay - discuss introductory and conclusion paragraphs. HW: Study for vocab. quiz and work on essay that is due Friday.
Thursday - Vocab. 6 quiz, DGP, review PSAT strategy and practice passage based reading. Begin worksheet on Ancient Greeks/mythology. Must bring textbooks to class starting tomorrow.
Friday - DGP, peer edit on rough draft essays and review formal essay rules, notes on Ancient Greeks.

Important deadlines - Medieval essay outline due Thursday. No vocabulary this week. Medieval rough draft essay is due on Tuesday

Monday - DGP #7, read Morte d'Arthur, review for test - test moved to Weds.
Tuesday - Review for test, work on essay, DGP #7, read novel.
Wednesday - MIDDLE AGES TEST, DGP #7, work on essay, conference over research thesis statement if necessary.
Thursday - CHANGE IN PLANS! We attended the drama dept.'s production on the history of theater. Very nice! Outline for medieval paper will be reviewed on Friday. Students should have their research novels in class tomorrow.
Friday - DGP review, thesis for research conferences continue, read novel. Pep rally before 3rd period shortens class to about an hour.

ROUGH DRAFT TYPED ESSAY IS DUE TUESDAY, OCT. 9TH.

TUESDAY - Vocab. 5, DGP week 6, review for Ancient Middle East test, writing notes on literary analysis essay. HW: study for test!!
WEDNESDAY - Ancient Middle East test, Vocab. 5, DGP week 6, begin brainstorming for essay on Tuesdays with Morrie.
THURSDAY - Vocab. 5, DGP week 6, we will work on thesis statements today and brainstorming for the essay
FRIDAY - Vocab. 5 quiz, DGP week 6, Journal 4: Today, I feel ___ because of ____. Journals 1-4 are due on Monday. We continued with brainstorming and thesis statement is due on Monday. Began first exercise for SAT prep.

Extra Credit: Modern-day Pilgrim extra credit is due at the beginning of class on 9/28/07.

MONDAY - Research thesis rough draft due at the beginning of class. Vocab. 6, DGP week 6, notes on romance literature and begin "Sir Gawain". Students should print out research guide to have in class on Thursday for open notes test.
TUESDAY - Vocab. 6, DGP week 6, quiz - "Sir Gawain"
WEDNESDAY - GHSGWT during an extended 2nd period. Third period - 11:16 - 11:43 am. Vocab. 6, DGP and quiet reading in research novel.
THURSDAY - Vocab. 6, DGP 6, Research Guide test (open notes), finish "Sir Gawain". NOTE: Extra credit due tomorrow.

WORLD LITERATURE - 9/17/07-9/21/07

HOYA PRIDE WEEK - Monday - Nerdy day, Tuesday - Camo day, Wednesday - Decade day, Thursday - Jersey day, Friday - Spirit day. The pep rally will be Friday between 2nd and 3rd period.

Make-ups - Tues. am, pm and Weds. am only due to Early Release.

Monday - 4th period will finish last 2 presentations. Begin vocab. 4 and DGP week 5. Review study guide for Epic of Gilgamesh. The "The Flood Story" and complete compare and contrast worksheet for the 2 flood stories. Tuesdays with Morrie should be finished by Wednesday.
Tuesday - >Vocab. 4, DGP week 5, Worksheet for compare/contrast
Wednesday - Vocab. 4, DGP week 5, Tuesday with Morrie discussion and last interview with Ted Koppel. Students received a study guide and should complete it. TEST on MONDAY.
HW: Read pages 154-161 in textbook.
Thursday - Vocab. 4, DGP week 5, Hebrew literature - quiz from reading. Read the story of "Ruth". Notes on writing if time permits.
Friday - Vocab. 4 quiz, DGP diagramming, continue with Hebrew literature (Psalm 23). TEST on Monday for Tuesdays with Morrie.

Friday - Vocab. 5 quiz, notes on romance literature and a Chivalric hero, read "Sir Gawain"

NOTE: Next research deadline is September 24th - rough draft thesis. Please keep reading your novels!
Extra Credit assignment will be available in class on Monday and will be due Friday, September 28th.

WORLD LITERATURE - 9/10/07

Essential Questions: What elements of the epic hero are evident in Gilgamesh? What life lessons can we apply from reading Tuesdays with Morrie? How do vocabulary and grammar help to improve writing?

Monday-Vocab. review 1-3 and DGP 4 will be assigned for homework this week. Book check on Thursday over the review unit. Must be finished by the time students come to class on Thursday. There will be a vocab. 1-3 test on Friday. Review those words! Extra credit opportunity will be on Thursday. We will try and finish Epic of Gilgamesh today in order to get in groups and work on project. We will discuss the latest reading of Tuesday with Morrie on Tuesday!!
Tuesday - Students will summarize pages 62-121 in Tuesdays and include a personal reflection. We will watch part of the interview with Morrie. We will also continue working in groups for the Epic of Gilgamesh project. HW: Rev. 1-3 Vocab., DGP #4, Epic of Gilgamesh study guide, continue reading Tuesdays with Morrie - finish book by 9/19. BONUS: bonus word for this week's test is Romeo. Don't tell anyone!!
Wednesday -Meet and dismiss from the Media Center to work on projects. Hopefully, presentations can begin on Thursday. Complete study guide for Epic of Gilgamesh.
Thursday - Vocab. 1-3 review, presentations or finish projects.
Friday - Vocab. 1-3 test, presentations
Tuesdays with Morrie should be finished by Weds., Sept. 19th.

NOTE: Mrs. Andrews IS working diligently to get essays and recent quizzes graded. Grades will be posted as they are graded.

Essential Questions: What elements of medieval England can be learned from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales? In what ways can vocabulary and grammar help to improve writing?

Monday -Vocab. 4, DGP week 4 - finish quiz from Friday if needed, Prologue. Students should be reading their research novel every day! Stay tuned for deadlines and don't miss them! It's worth a grade!
Tuesday - Vocab. 4, DGP week 4, finish Prologue? Fill in charts of pilgrims paying close attention to Chaucer's opinion of each pilgrim.
Wednesday - Vocab. 4, DGP week 4, finish Prologue. Charts should be finished by Thursday.
Thursday - Vocab. 4 check and review, review Prologue and Pilgrims, Read "Wife of Bath Tale"
Friday - PEP RALLY between 2nd and 3rd periods - Vocab. 4 quiz, CT quiz and read novel. HW: "Pardoner's Tale"

Monday - Holiday - Students sign up for research novel Tues. am at 7:45 am. Novels are due in class on Friday, Sept. 7th.
Tuesday - Vocab. 3 quiz, begin DGP week 3, intro. to Middle Ages - NOTES!! HW: Beowulf projects are due in class on Friday, September 7th.
Bring in signed sheet for research paper.
Wednesday - DGP week 3, notes on Chaucer, give back college essays for one more round of
revisions. HW: Finish DGP week 3 for review - quiz is Friday. College essays due Friday.
Thursday - Review DGP week 3 for quiz, finish notes, Middle English activity and begin "Prologue" of Canterbury Tales
HW: Beowulf projects due Friday, primary source novel due as well.
