Harrison's Mathematics Department is committed to excellence as we work collaboratively to provide quality education for our students in order to prepare them for success in future math courses and help them obtain the necessary mathematical foundation to achieve their college and career goals. Students leave Harrison prepared to attend any university and, if they choose, to major in a math-related field.
The defining characteristic of our math faculty is their caring nature and commitment to help students achieve their goals. Walk by a math classroom before or after school and you will more than likely see teachers providing additional help with homework or answering questions before an assessment. You may also see former students returning to visit teachers and sharing their college success stories.
Our Math Department continues to challenge our students by offering rigorous courses. Currently, we use the Georgia Standards of Excellence curriculum to prepare students for a variety of post-secondary academic and career pathways. Beyond these CCGPS courses, students experience success in our AP calculus and AP statistics programs and consistently test well on the national AP exams.
Our multivariable calculus course is a distance program offered through the Georgia Institute of Technology. The course is available for students who have finished both semesters of AP calculus, made qualifying scores on the AP Calculus BC exam and either the SAT or ACT, and who are admitted to Georgia Tech. These seniors earn college credit right on our campus.
